南朝宋元徽元年（４７3年)十月癸酉，设新昌郡（治顿丘，今滁州市市区），仍属徐州市（今凤阳县李二庄乡小卞庄西）。隋开皇三年（５８3年)，撤销新昌郡为新昌县。
